Open tools can be implemented in the creative process.
Participation and incentive are key for a collaborative ideation.
Projection can create a new kind of immersive experience.
The ambition of the project as a part of the OpenNext initiative is to demonstrate the power of collaborative design allowing for high-tech innovation to be achieved at a surprisingly low cost and fast pace.
Minimax originated as a counter concept to today's concumer electronics, especially VR headsets that are literally closed down and seperate users from their surroundings.
From early exporations to ergonomic models and functional prototypes the ideation and design process was driven by physical and digital iterations combined, and also included branding considerations.
For the demonstrator a mini arcade game was developed in Unity to put the experience to the test. Instead of creating a separate reality on a screen, Minimax projects content visible and accessible for everyone.
Throughout the process every stage of ideation and development has been logged on the open hardware platform Wikifactory to share progress and get input from the global community of makers.
