Early technical design does not restrict but stimulate creativity.
AR, VR and 3D scanning used as natural process steps.
Engineering dialogue is what makes the concept real.
Using VR and 3D scanning in the process, the concept phase was comprised of simultaneous reverse engineering of the aimed for platform and ideation for
exterior and interior.
Designed to have a minimal footprint the wheels are put to the very edges of the platform. The exterior incorporates clues from bicycle design as well as rugged details for the urban everyday use.
A spacious and airy atmosphere despite car’s dimensions was the maxim when creating the cabin. Feel of space and ergonomics where meticulously tested in VR throughout the process.
For the prototype the seat had to be fitted over the ones of the utilised platform. So a 3D model was created as input from a scan that the new design was then based on.
All dimensions and features were designed to comply with road regulations in close cooperation with the engineers. A driveable prototype was then realised with the partenring model makers in Hongkong.
The initial vision was presented as an urban L7e show car at CIIE Shanghai 2018. The concept was then adapted to an M1 package in 2019, before development of the third iteration was kicked off in 2021.
